DoorDash banned an Austin driver who faked a delivery by submitting an AI-generated photo of an order at a customer’s front door, as detailed by resident Byrne Hobart in a viral X post, Nexstar reports.
Byrne Hobart, an Austin resident, described the incident on X, stating: “Amazing. DoorDash driver accepted the drive, immediately marked it as delivered, and submitted an AI-generated image of a DoorDash order (left) at our front door (right).” The post compared the fabricated image to a real photo of the door, highlighting the deception.

As the post gained traction, Hobart provided additional context. He acknowledged that replicating such a scenario would be “pretty easy.” Another Austin customer responded in the thread, reporting the identical incident with the same driver display name.
Hobart offered a theory on the method. He suggested the driver operated a hacked account on a jailbroken phone. This allowed access to an image of the front door via DoorDash’s feature displaying photos from prior deliveries to that address.
A spokesperson told TechCrunch: “After quickly investigating this incident, our team permanently removed the Dasher’s account and ensured the customer was made whole. We have zero tolerance for fraud and use a combination of technology and human review to detect and prevent bad actors from abusing our platform.”
