Danish Gambling Authority self-exclusion register reaches landmark figure

The Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) has seen its register of self-excluded players (ROFUS) reach the milestone figure of 60,000. 

As of May 1 this year, the number of voluntary registrations had been reached, with young men making up the majority demographic on the list.

ROFUS was established in 2012 to make it easy to block access to online gambling, land-based casinos, and betting at licensed operators.

“It is gratifying that those who need to exclude themselves from gambling are using ROFUS. This shows that awareness of the tool is growing and that it fulfils an important function in the effort against gambling addiction,” says Anders Dorph, director of the Danish Gambling Authority.

The number of registrations has steadily risen from under 1,500 in 2012 to over 60,000 today, driven by increased operator requirements to promote ROFUS and targeted campaigns by the Danish Gambling Authority. This includes the notable 2025 “Take It Easy with ROFUS” campaign, designed to destigmatize self-exclusion among young men, which has evidently had the desired impact.

As of May 1, the data indicates that young men are clearly overrepresented on the ROFUS register, with 58% of male registrants under 40 and 96% of those under 20 being male.

“The figures confirm a trend we have seen for several years – namely that young men are particularly at risk of problematic gambling behaviour. Therefore, we work purposefully with information in this particular group, including thorough presentations at youth education centers, ” added Dorph.

ROFUS offers flexible options, including temporary bans (24 hours to six months) or a permanent ban, reversible only after a year.

The Danish Gambling Authority remains committed to raising awareness of the scheme and has vowed to continue preventive measures to promote responsible gambling in the northern European country.
