Is Claude Code the Revolution?

DATE POSTED:January 12, 2026

Before we get to today’s column, we wanted to point you to Kevin’s Saturday scoop about a longtime Google DeepMind director raising capital for a visual reasoning AI startup and our Friday scoop about DeepSeek’s upcoming V4 model, which insiders say is great at coding.

Major U.S.-based AI developers are waiting with bated breath to see whether the model from this Chinese high-flyer (pun intended) is as good as advertised. Separately, Anthropic is jumping into the healthcare market, it announced Monday, just days after OpenAI unveiled a new personal health tab for ChatGPT.

Meanwhile, excitement around Anthropic’s AI coding product has taken off in Silicon Valley circles for the past few weeks, but the buzz is more than justified. Talk to technical people in your social circle and you might hear how they use the product, Claude Code, for everything from moving data to new types of databases to creating app prototypes to detecting and fixing bugs. They sometimes run multiple sessions of the product simultaneously.

Even some non-engineers at tech companies say they are getting in on the action by generating and changing code without engineers’ help, or using Claude Code for data analysis and other noncoding tasks.
