Bethesda to shut down this Elder Scrolls project

Bethesda will permanently shut down The Elder Scrolls: Blades on June 30. This announcement follows the game’s delisting from the App Store, Google Play Store, and Nintendo Store.

The shutdown reflects a broader trend of limited commercial success for the mobile spinoff, which struggled despite a strong initial download period of over one million iOS users in the first week of early access. Players are offered a free bundle of Gems and Sigils, while all in-game items are being sold for one Gem or Sigil each before the closure.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades, which launched in 2020 for Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch, received a “Generally Unfavorable” score on Metacritic. Critics described the game as “repetitive” and criticized its reliance on microtransactions.

This move follows Bethesda’s prior decision to discontinue The Elder Scrolls: Legends in 2019, shutting down its servers in January 2025. Players seeking a mobile experience from Bethesda’s fantasy universe can still access The Elder Scrolls: Castles.
